Crumble in Boise

2001

I met David in a very small room where we served a McKinsey client for what was to be 6 months. The details of the work are long gone, but what is not gone is the enthusiasm he had for the work, and how even during the most stressful times, he found a way to laugh..laugh..and laugh... I was also blown away by his brainpower. He took his craft to a whole new level, and it was humbling to be on the same team as him. I really don't think it's overstating it to say that the study could not have succeeded without him. What is crazy about that is that he was a semi-conductor guy who had been asked to work on a consumer products clients, and yet he was still head and shoulders about all of us. I also cannot ever see a menu with Crumble on it without thinking of him, and I don't think that will ever change. Every single night of the study, which often felt very long, there would be dinner at the Grove Hotel, where most of us would gather. I can't even remember why we laughed about the crumble, I think that it was just good, and there had to be something to laugh about, but it became a strong bond over the years that we had eaten all those servings together.
