An interrupted ride, ca. 2000

As a colleague never on a project with David, our paths only crossed a few times around the McKinsey offices. But I still recall one afternoon when I gave him a ride from Palo Alto to Redwood Shores. At David's request, we stopped at a bike shop where he checked in on some repairs, and a BBQ store where he considered the grill to choose for his new household. On the short drive then he talked about his flying. Just in these few moments I caught a glimpse of a person who was active, thoughtful, a good friend, and had a great sense of humor. I mentally filed David as "probably great to be on an engagement with, or just hang out with". Alas, not many more such occasions arose, but I'm glad others got to experience and remember him even more as all that, and beyond. May his love always be with his family.
